Watkins girls golf finishes second at sectionals

CORNING—The Watkins Glen girls golf team competed in the Section IV tournament, Thursday, May 30. Watkins finished as a team in second with 447, while Horseheads was first with 362.
Individually, Sarah Wickham recorded a 98 for fourth place, Halle Phillips had a 104 for sixth place, Haley DeNardo was 12th with a 114 and Courtney Irwin had a 131.
The top nine players from this match qualified for the state championship, which included Wickham and Phillips.
The day before, the girls team captured the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championship at the Watkins Glen Golf Course. The team set a new school record with 199 total strokes. Phillips was a medalist with 43.
