Watkins girls lose to Newark, 7-0

NEWARK—The Watkins Glen varsity girls soccer team lost to Newark Valley, 7-0, in an away game, Thursday, Sept. 9.
Newark scored all but one goal in the first half.  Coach Travis Durfee said, “We marked much tighter in the second half. We were more disciplined and denied them options.”  However, he added that the team could not get anything started offensively.
Watkins made a total of two attempted shots against Newark’s goal.  In the Seneca’s goal, Erika Hoad had 19 saves.
“Newark Valley distributed the ball well and moved well without the ball all game. Their creative runs created opportunities for them in the first forty minutes,” added Durfee.
The girls play next at Candor, Monday, Sept. 13.
