ODESSA—The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team beat Odessa-Montour, 46-24, Wednesday, Feb. 6. Leading Watkins was both Alexis Naylor and Amanda Pike with 10 points each. Madison Gates had eight, while Kayli Westervelt scored seven. For the Indians, Morgan Stermer scored 11 points and eight rebounds. Brittany VanAmburg had seven points, while Trisha Williams scored four. Ashton Stadelmaier added two points. Coach Greg Gavich explained Odessa fell behind early at 13-1. He added the girls fought in the second quarter to make it 15-10. However, he said "we just don't have enough firepower." "They have played hard, competed all season, and kept the team positive despite facing a lot of adversity," said Gavich. "It's not easy to keep competing and stay positive when you aren't on the plus side of the scoreboard, but they have done that and I am very proud of them having carrying on the tradition of O-M girls varsity basketball."
