WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen girls track team lost to Notre Dame, Wednesday, April 28.
The final score was 86-50.  Coach Kelsey Wood said the Senecas had several great performances despite the loss.  Watkins placed first in several areas.
Junior Amber Swartz won the 100 Hurdles (in 19.8), and the 400 Hurdles (in 1:16.7).  Swartz was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that included Catarina Hong, Kelsie Hamelin, and Michaela Olafson which took first.  Junior Shannon Hazlitt won the 1500 meter race (in 5:57.6) and took second in the 3000.  Junior Shelby Olafson won high jump with a height of 5’ 4” and in her first shot put competition, won the event with a throw of 26’ 0”.

Shelby’s sister, freshman Michaela Olafson won the triple jump (with 27’ 1.5“) followed by another freshman, Abigail Cocca, who won pole vault (with 5’ 6”).  Sophmore Cassandra Wait also took third in the 100 Hurdles and third in Discus.
"On another note, the meet was the final home meet for the Senecas’ seniors," said Wood.  "Captain Sarah Teed will be graduating this year after being a loyal and competitive track athlete for four years.  Her performances in shot and discus were an asset to the team and her kind, warm personality and her dedicated work ethic will be greatly missed.  The team recognized her achievements and wished her well in a ceremony before the meet started."
