Watkins Glen, Dundee and Penn Yan honor top athletes

FINGER LAKES--Last week Watkins Glen, Dundee and Penn Yan schools honored athletes for their contributions throughout the sports season.
Watkins Glen named the Most Valuable Players for the spring sports season as well as naming other award winners at their banquet Tuesday, June 3. The MVP’s are Halle Phillips, golf; Matt Gill, track; Jordan Doane, softball; Taylor Hughey, softball and Keith Rekczis, golf; John Smith, baseball; Alexis Naylor, softball; Bryce De La Osa Cruz, lacrosse and Taylor Kennard, track.
In addition to the awards that were handed out, there were also three inducted into the Hall of Fame. They were Jennifer Conklin, Michael Beber (accepting the award is his mother Pamela Taft while Michael is stationed in Texas in the Army) and Kenneth Depew (benefactor).
Dundee Central School honored athletes from the three sports seasons, Thursday, June 5 in the DCS gymnasium. Awards given included the Most Valuable Player, the Lee Gibson award, the Varsity Club Sportsmanship award and the Sports Booster Appreciation award.
This year the MVP’s included Colin Prior, football; Erika Sutherland, volleyball; Kayla Pollack, fall cheerleading; Elizabeth Curran, girls soccer; Justin Brace, boys basketball; Megan Howell, girls basketball; Kayla Pollack, winter cheerleading; Paul Pollack, wrestling; Caitlyn Cornish and Laura Miller, girls bowling; Dustin Anderson, boys bowling; Paul Pollack, baseball; Tristine Dombroski, softball; Caitlin Schenck, girls track; Jonathan Huber, boys track.
Individual awards were also given. The Keith Cagle award was given to Colin Prior; Dale Howell award, Justin Brace; Ray Fultz award, Rory Long; Richard Kendall award, Jarrett Butler; Skorusa award, Austin Riek; Half-Century award, Paul Pollack; Bolvig Female, Nolleen Whetham; Bolvig Male, Cody Salvatore; Dundee Female Athlete Award, Samantha Clark; David Summerson Male Athlete Award; Paul Pollack.
Penn Yan Academy held their 48th annual sports awards program, Monday, June 9. Teams presented Varsity Club/Girls Athletic Association Awards along with Heart Awards. There were also individual awards which included: Matt Harer Memorial Sportsmanship Award, Harold Gray; Shirley Trombley Spirit Award, Shane Bloom; Stork Insurance Agency Sportsmanship Award, Sam DiRisio; Kyle Hopkins Outstanding Teammate Award, Megan Lafferty (top right); Ken Johnson Sports Award, Heather Andersen (left); Fred Marshall, Jr. Legion Award, Derek Sisson; Cheryl Karweck Poole Memorial Scholarship, Heather Lee and Sam DiRisio; U.S. Army Scholar Athlete Award, Heather Andersen and Michael Bloom; U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award, Heather Andersen and John Martisch; Girls Coaches’ Trophy, Megan Lafferty; Boys Coaches’ Trophy, Bradley Voigt (top left).
