Watkins Glen falls to Cooperstown in regional

ONEONTA-The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team lost to Cooperstown in the state Class C regionals, Saturday, March 14. The final score was 46-34.
Watkins entered the post-sectional bracket as the number four seed, representing Section IV. Cooperstown, Section III, earned the third seed.
Watkins was tied with Cooperstown 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, but was down 24-19 at halftime. In the third, the Senecas pulled within one point, 28-27. However, Cooperstown had an explosive fourth quarter ending the game 46-34.
Amanda Pike led with 14 points, and was four-for-four at the free throw line. Madison Gates added 10 points. Amanda Cherock scored three, while Allison Teed, Mariah Gonzalez, and Katherine Meehan each had two. Madison Myers scored one.
"I'm super proud of them. They came a long way," said Coach Alicia Learn. "They've had a great season. A great year, I'm very proud. They played hard. It just wasn't our game."
Watkins ends with a 17-5 record.
