Watkins girls take sectional championship

BINGHAMTON-The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team claimed the Section IV Class C championship in the finals game against Bainbridge-Guilford, Saturday, March 7.
The final score for the Senecas was 43-37.
Leading Watkins was Madison Gates with 14 points, six rebounds, and one block. Mariah Gonzalez and Allison Teed both scored eight points. Gonzalez also had five rebounds. Amanda Pike had seven points and Madison Myers added four. Amanda Cherock also contributed five rebounds.
"I knew we could get here. It's a great feeling," said Coach Alicia Learn. She added, "(Watkins) realized that it's now or never. They got this far. They didn't want to go home without the medal."
With the win, Watkins' record is 17-4. This is the Senecas first sectional title in 15 years (2000).
Watkins Glen will now face Cooperstown (Section 3) Saturday, March. 14.
