Watkins Glen plans free concert

WATKINS GLEN--The Schuyler County Legislature is sponsoring a performance by the band Kilrush, Wednesday, March 14 in advance of St. Patrick's Day. The free concert will be held at the Watkins Glen Performing Arts Center (WPAC), also remembered as the former Watkins Glen middle school auditorium. The concert is from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and doors will open at 6 p.m. Additionally, pre-show entertainment will be provided by The Ring of Chiarraighe Celtic Dancers.
Schuyler County hopes this venue, which has received over a million dollars in upgrades as part of a public/private partnership, will create an opportunity to increase cultural offerings in the community. The county plans to further invest in the facility to provide additional upgrades that would welcome national performers and create additional offerings not only for residents but for the millions of visitors annually. This center is included as a key project in the Watkins Glen Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) plan. The county hopes this will be the first of many performances in the facility.
While future performances will have an admission charge, this initial one will not and the Schuyler County Legislature feels this event will showcase the facility and demonstrate the potential at the space.
As part of this and future events, local craft breweries and wineries will provide concessions. This performance will feature vending by Grist Iron Brewery and Lakewood Vineyards. The Watkins Glen Booster Club will also operate a concession stand for food items.
