WATKINS GLEN--Watkins Glen International has been crowned a repeat winner in the USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice "Best NASCAR Track" poll.
Friday, July 21, it was officially announced the road course led a list of twenty facilities throughout the country nominated for the honor. It is the second time The Glen has been named "Best NASCAR Track," with the last contest coming in 2015.
The nearly month-long voting contest ended Monday, July 17.
"This is a great honor, coming from the fans of Watkins Glen International, and the fans of racing in general," said WGI President Michael Printup. "Once again, the best fans in motorsports were behind us all the way. We'd also like to thank Senator Tom O'Mara and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, who were among many that were pushing hard from the moment we were tabbed as a finalist."
O'Mara, who has previously served as an honorary starter at Watkins Glen International, echoed Printup's sentiment to contest voters.
"Thanks to everyone who took a turn at the wheel and kept voting, day after day, to support Watkins Glen International as the best NASCAR track in America. It's a well-deserved national honor for track officials and staff, drivers and, most of all, the fans who help make The Glen one of the renowned venues in all of sports and an absolute anchor of the culture and economy of our Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions. It was a great ride and a great show of support for one of our own."
NASCAR will visit Watkins Glen from Aug. 3 to 6 this year. Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race is called the "I LOVE NEW YORK 355 at The Glen" this year. This is the first year WGI has partnered with New York state to present the race.
