WATKINS GLEN—Over 100 runners and walkers braved the near 35 degree cold for the annual Spud Run at Watkins Glen Central School District, Friday, March 15. Students and staff dressed in green and ran 1.7 miles at the school and on the Catharine Valley Trail. Leading the runners overall were the boys' and girls' first place winners Matt Gill and Maggie Bond. Brenton Whiting and Taylor Kennard took second places, with Josh Langley and Clara Chedzoy in third. The first place team was track and field. "Salt Potatoes," a group of elementary students, were in second place. The "7th Grade Swag" team came in third. Leading the faculty was Trevor Holland. After the run awards were given to the top finishes. April Ruda was also awarded for being the Greenest. Other categories included the elementary school boys: Gabe Planty (first), Max Evans (second), and Seamus Mooney (third). For the elementary girls, Adrianna Solomon was first, Kelsey Kernan second, and Aislinn Klemann third. Pat Hazlitt was first for middle school boys, followed by Jake Carroci in second, and Josh Updyke in third. Ryanna LaMoreaux was first for the girls, Julie Reilly second, and Megan Hazlitt third.
