Watkins loses against Moravia

WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen varsity football team lost a one-touchdown contest to Moravia with a 26-20 score Friday, Sept. 20. The Senecas led 8-6 in the first quarter, but ended the half down 14-8. Watkins managed to put another 12 points on the board in the second half, but ended with a final score of 26-20, Moravia.
"We had a huge fumble," Head Coach Lou Condon Jr. said. "We were driving with the score 20-14 and we were driving and driving and we fumbled at around the 23 yard line. That hurt bad."
Moravia paved their way to victory through their rushing game, gaining 309 yards on 43 carries. Watkin's offense had 182 yards on the ground through 36 rushes. Leading rushers included running back Tony Simiele with 120 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, running back Jon Brown with 50 yards on 12 carries and quarterback Brady Bond with two rushing attempts for nine yards and one touchdown. Fullback Ian Chedzoy had three rushes for five yards.
Bond also went seven of 10 through the air for 136 yards and one touchdown pass. Brown led in receiving with three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, followed by Keith Rekczis with two receptions for 51 yards and Adam Tuttle with two catches for 21 yards.
Defensively, Jordan Rappleye led the team with eight tackles, followed by Kurtis Edwards with six, Brown with four and Chedzoy with four.
Watkins Glen plays Spencer-Van Etten at home Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The Senecas' record is now 1-2.
