SCHUYLER COUNTY—Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour bid farewell to the 2011 senior classes in graduation ceremonies, Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25. Watkins graduated 95 in the Saturday celebration. Sarah Bond is the valedictorian and Emily Pazar is the salutatorian. The student speakers during the ceremony reminisced about previous years at Watkins Glen and what the future now holds in store for the class. “We’re embarking on an incredible journey that is life,” said Bond. With high school now finished for them, Bond added they are filled with various emotions: accomplishment, relief, victory and joy. There were 66 students in the Odessa-Montour class of 2011. Allison Stamp is the valedictorian and Katlynne Ray is the salutatorian. The students also reflected on the past before looking to the future. In her speech, Ray said. “We need to make our own mistakes.” She added the new graduates have to learn their lessons and not be afraid of making a mistake. “This is the time where we must treasure the experience we had in high school, but also look towards the bright futures that inevitably lay ahead of each and every one of us. This day, and this ceremony, mark the ending of one chapter of our lives and the beginning of a new one, though it was with the help and lessons learned at Odessa-Montour that all of these opportunities can so easily be within our reach,” said Stamp.
