Watkins, Odessa swimmers advance to sectionals

WATKINS GLEN—Eight swimming teams, including Watkins and Odessa, competed in the Section IV Class C preliminaries, Thursday, Feb. 11, at Watkins Glen.
Both Watkins and Odessa have swimmers that will be advancing to the championship competition in Owego, Saturday, Feb. 13.  All of the relay teams for 400 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Medley qualified for sectionals.  Watkins will advance for the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. The top 16 swimmers in each event will move on to Owego.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Watkins' Jacq Goehner, Derek Palmer, Chris Carlton, and Braedan Fitch qualified.  Goehner took third in the preliminary race.
Nick Cocca, Zack Dvornicky-Raymond, Casey Holland, and Devon Crispell qualified for Watkins in the 200 Yard IM.  O-M's John Wead also qualified.
In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Watkins' Connor Fazzary took second.  Also qualifying to move on was Watkins' Thomas Whickham, Frank Cady, and Michael Olmstead.  Martin Eccleston was Odessa's only qualifier.
Watkins' Adam Rice took second in the qualifying race for the 100 Yard Butterfly.  Carlton, Crispell, and Preston Roberts also qualified.
For Watkins, Cameron Fitch, Fazzary, Whickham, and Holland qualified for the 100 Yard Freestyle.  Eccleston and C.J. Husted will advance for Odessa.
Palmer, Matthew Hayes, Terry Bond, and Thomas Richtmyer will advance for Watkins in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Goehner, Rice, Fitch, and Hamelin qualified for Watkins.  Odessa's only swimmer to advance for this race will be Wead.
The final preliminary race for the evening was the 100 Yard Backstroke.  Watkins' Dvornicky-Raymond, Cocca, Moritz Schrader, and William Simiele will advance.
