Watkins prepares for Christmas celebration

WATKINS GLEN—The Village Christmas celebration, hosted by Watkins Glen Promotions and the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce, will be held this Friday, Dec. 4. Everyone is invited to come sing Christmas carols, enjoy the lights, and celebrate the holiday season.
The event will have something for the whole family with food, vendors, crafts, activities and tons of fun.
The event will be held on Franklin Street in Watkins Glen. Third, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Streets will be closed to traffic from 5 to 8 p.m. Second and Fourth Streets will be open. Since vendors and other activities are not set up on the street, no major delays are predicted during the day before the event, just be aware of the extra traffic that will be coming in around 5 p.m.
Parking will be available on all side streets off Franklin Street and all municipal lots will be open to the public for added space.
Villagers should not forget about the Christmas Parade sponsored by Wireless World Inc. that will begin at 6:30 p.m. from Specchio Ford.
Weather permitting, a fireworks display sponsored by Wal-Mart will take place over the Seneca Harbor Station at 8 p.m.
The weather looks to be cool with a few snow flurries, just in time to fill the air with Christmas spirit. Those who will be attending the event are asked to cross their fingers for no wind, so that the fireworks display can still take place.
For more call 607-535-3003 or to see more information from last year’s celebration visit the festival’s Web page at http://www.watkinsglen.com/promotions.
