Watkins presents 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'

WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen Class of 2016 will present "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" from Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20. The show will take place at the Watkins Glen high school auditorium, located along 12th Street in Watkins Glen.
The family-friendly "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" will run Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and students. Children under age 10 are free with a paying adult.
In all, over 20 students from seventh to 12th grades have been rehearsing since January, immersing themselves in the early 1900s with music, choreography, costumes, and several early 20th century references. The show is full of familiar songs fans will recognize from the movie, including, "Toot Sweets," "Doll on a Music Box," "Teamwork," "Hushabye Mountain," "Roses of Success" and "Me Ol' Bamboo."
Michelle and Tim Benjamin of Montour Falls are directing (their 12th show for Watkins Glen high school), with Sarah Matthews as music director.
Leads include Conlin Wysocki as inventor Caractacus Potts, with Maria and Scott Brubaker as his children, Jemima and Jeremy, and William Yeater as the batty Grandpa. The lovely Truly Scrumptious is played by Phebe Wickham.
Baron and Baroness Bomburst, played by Nathaniel Rose and French exchange student, Marie Bucher, try to steal Chitty with the help of the not-so-brilliant spies, Boris and Goran, played by Dakota Cole and Chase Richtmyer.
Featured performers include Alexis Atchie as the Toymaker, Mia Manzer as The Childcatcher and James St. Julien as Lord Scrumptious.
The pit band includes Tom Bloodgood, Bernie Riley, Sam Riley and Andy Stevenson, along with Sarah Matthews.
Choreography is by student Portia Wells and co-director Michelle Benjamin. The costume director is Tammy Cole. Hair is done by Shear Designs. The producer is Sam Brubaker.
The book, music and lyrics are by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The musical was adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams and Ray Roderick. For more information, call 607-535-3210 or 535-8950.
