Watkins school board appoints Myers president

WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen Central School District board of education re-appointed Mike Myers as the board president and appointed Kelly McCarthy as the new vice president, Monday, July 7.
The meeting was the district’s annual reorganizational meeting. The board also welcomed new members Keith Caslin and Kris Clarkson, who were elected by residents in May.
In other business:
• The Watkins Glen district was awarded a $442,100 Community Schools Grant from the state to be used over three years. Clerk Marie Keefer explained Superintendent Tom Phillips is working with the county to get a primary physician at the district two days a week to offer health and wellness services.
• The board approved call-back appointments of Tara Parish as an elementary teacher and Kathleen Popovich as a business education teacher. Katie Richardson was also hired as a school psychologist.
• The board approved agreements with Schuyler Hospital to provide physical therapy services for summer school and the regular 2014-15 school year.
• An agreement with the Arc of Schuyler was approved for the work study program.
• The board acknowledged the second reading and approved the “programs for students with disabilities” and “allocation of space for special education programs” policies.
• The administrators association and assistant transportation supervisor contracts were approved.
• The board authorized the GST BOCES contract for 2014-15.
The next Watkins Glen board of education meeting is set for Monday, July 28. It is anticipated to begin at 6:30 p.m., following an executive session.
