Watkins swimmers beat Odessa, 91-76

WATKINS GLEN-The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team posted a win against Odessa-Montour, Thursday, Feb. 4. The final score was 91-76.
For the Senecas, Matt Doppel, Lucas Wickham, Aidan DeBolt, and Jacob Slater were first as the 200 medley relay team (1:48.21) and first as the 200 free relay team (1:36.36). Doppel also placed first in the 50 free (22.73, a new pool record) and first in the 100 free (48.65). DeBolt was first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.29) and second in the 50 free (23.23). Wickham took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.37), while Will Fitzsimmons finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:09.79).
Dakota Cole finished second in the 200 free (2:00.22, a personal record) and second in the 500 free (5:26.42, a personal record).
"This was a wonderful way to say goodbye to our seniors on senior night," said Watkins Coach Len DeBolt. "I will miss Matt Doppel, Jacob Slater, and Lucas Wickham very much after this season."
For the Indians, the 400 free relay team (James Terry, Alec Betts, Anthony Humphries, and Billy Tague) took first with 3:58.65. Tague was first in the 200 free (1:57.76) and first in the 500 free (5:22.76). Humphries placed first in the 200 IM (2:22.93) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.80).
Betts took second in the 100 free (57.81) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:11.99). Caelan Haney finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:11.56).
"The O-M guys swam a great meet tonight," said Coach Terri Brace. "Even though they came up short in the final score, they gave it all they had, and I'm very proud of them. Now we set our sights on the championship season, looking forward to IACs next weekend and sectionals the following week."
