Watkins Tops wants to install gas pumps

WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen planning board reviewed Tops Friendly Markets’ initial plan to install gas pumps at the Watkins store location, Wednesday, April 20.
Clerk Donna Beardsley said Tops will present a more detailed site plan at the May 18 meeting for the board to review.  Tops wants to build the gas pumps in the parking lot, just north of the South Franklin Street entrance.
The company is proposing two double-sided pumps, with the possibility of a third one.  Beardsley said the planning board’s initial comments were about traffic flow and the direction of vehicles coming from Franklin Street.
While Tops representatives will return to the May meeting with more detailed plans, the board agreed it would do a long-form State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR).  Beardsley explained the long-form SEQR is a more detailed look at potential environmental impacts of the project than the planning board normally does.
In other business:  The board was joined by three new members, John Bond, Tony Fraboni, and Tom Merrill.  The three fill seats left by board members who resigned or joined another village board.
The next planning board meeting is Wednesday, May 18, at 7 p.m., in the Shared Services Building on Decatur Street.
