Watkins track falls to Newark Valley


WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams lost to Newark Valley, Tuesday, April 8. The boys lost 75.5-64.5, while the score for the girls was 89-52. For the boys, Matt Gill won first in the 1600 meter run (4:57), first in the 3200 meter run (10:47), and first in the high jump. Ryan Pruitt took first in the long jump and first in the triple jump.


Shawn Rutledge was first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.7), followed by Jacob Carocci in second (1:14.13). Carocci was also second in the high jump.


Patrick Hazlitt took second in the 1600 meter run (5:04.5), second in the 800 meter dash (2:14.6), and second in the 3200 meter run (11:06.5). Kevin Kernan was second in the 110 meter hurdles (21.2). Thomas Schmitt placed second in the shot put and discus, while Jacob Slater was second in the triple jump.


For the girls, the 4x100 meter relay team (De'naja Blanchard, Sam Shea, Amanda Grinolds, and Isobel Scheffey) finished first in 57.1. Blanchard won first in the 100 meter hurdles (18.5). Taylor Kennard placed first in the 3000 meter run (12:13), followed by Maggie Bond in second (12:17). Bond was also second in the 1500 meter run (5:36.7).


Lucy Craig took first in the shot put. Sam Gill was second in the 400 meter dash (14.8), while Lindsey Suddaby finished second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:24.6).
