WATKINS GLEN—Watkins’ girls varsity soccer team played a 1-0 shut out game against Tioga, Friday, Oct. 8. The game’s only game was first set into motion when Watkins defender Katrina Swarthout won the ball in midfield. She feinted past her Tioga opponents and carried it towards the end line. Coach Travis Durfee said she then made a targeted crossing pass to Brittany Miller. She in turn passed it on to Angela Keough. “Keough put a rocket over the keepers head,” said Durfee about the goal. Watkins attempted 17 shots on Tioga’s goal and had 5 corner kicks. Erika Hoad had 10 saves in the goal. “We played pretty well against a very physical team. The were a number of fouls called during the game and the refs seemed timid at times to make other calls for aggressive play. Our girls did not back down, however, and played through to the ball,” said Durfee. Watkins is now 4-10, with one last home game scheduled this season. The Senecas play next against Waverly, Wednesday, Oct. 13.
