Who will be the 2017 Miss Penn Yan?

PENN YAN-The annual crowning of Miss Penn Yan will take place during this year's StarShine event that begins 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the village.
Each of the 10 contestants will discuss what they would do if they were in charge of Penn Yan for one day. Profiles for each contestant are listed below:

Sydney Bloom
The daughter of Steve and Chris Bloom and a junior at Penn Yan Academy, Sydney Bloom is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. She plays varsity volleyball, basketball and lacrosse and participates in the Debate Club, Varsity Club and Varsity Reads. If Sydney was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would host a festival to honor police, firefighters, emergency workers and volunteers.

Alexandra Cox
The daughter of Ted and Angie Cox, Alexandra Cox is a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy. She is sponsored by the Penn Yan Theatre Co. Alexandra has played JV soccer, JV basketball and varsity lacrosse. If Alexandra was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would create a place where kids could go when they were bored or needed a place to stay after school.

Harmony Daugherty
The granddaughter of Carl and Lois Klapp and a junior at Penn Yan Academy, Harmony Daugherty is sponsored by the Arc of Yates. She is studying criminal justice at the Finger Lakes Technical Career Center. Harmony has worked at the Penn Yan Public Library during the summer for two years. If she was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would work to improve the community.

Justina Jenkins
The daughter of Martin and Lisa Jenkins, Justina Jenkins is a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy. She is sponsored by the American Association of University Women. Justina plays volleyball, soccer, lacrosse and participates in the Art Club. If she was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would secure donations of food and help out in a food kitchen so anyone who needed it had a hot meal for dinner.

Brady Logan
The daughter of Donna Logan and a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy, Brady Logan is sponsored by the Penn Yan Rotary Club. She plays soccer and lacrosse and has been a lacrosse caption. She volunteers at the Journey for Sight Walk and Relay for Life. If Brady was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would host a fundraiser to set up a scholarship for a graduating student joining the military.

Chloe Madigan
The daughter of Mike and Krista Madigan, Chloe Madigan is a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy. She is sponsored by the Loyal Order of Moose 2030. Chloe is a varsity cheerleader and plays JV lacrosse. She participates in Core Athletix Cheerleading and Sustainability Club. If Chloe was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would work to reduce littering and have recycling and garbage bins on the streets.

Chelsea Manahan
The daughter of Patrick and Jodi Manahan, Chelsea Manahan is a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy and is sponsored by the Yates County C.O.P.S. Union. She plays basketball, soccer and lacrosse and is currently employed at Polishing Touches and Wagner. If Chelsea was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would set up a forum to educate individuals about the harms and effects of drug addiction.

Katlyn Sciallo
The daughter of Salvatore and Lashana Sciallo, Katlyn Sciallo is a sophomore at Penn Yan Academy. She is sponsored by the Izaak Walton League. Katlyn plays softball and has participated in cheerleading. She works at the Trading Post on weekends and volunteers at Saint Marks. If Katlyn was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would give the youth of Penn Yan a community center.

Emily Wunder
The daughter of George and Eileen Wunder, and a junior at Penn Yan Academy, Emily Wunder is sponsored by Catholic Daughters. She has played varsity volleyball, JV and varsity basketball, varsity softball and JV and varsity lacrosse. She is the volleyball team captain. If Emily was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would create an after-school program for pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Hannah Elaine Yonts
The daughter of Dan and Sarah Yonts, Hannah Elaine Yonts is a junior at Penn Yan Academy. She is sponsored by Penn Yan Elks Lodge 1722. Hannah has played JV softball and both JV and varsity volleyball and works at the Keuka Restaurant. If Hannah was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would help improve children's nutrition in Yates County by increasing food service program funding.
