Wood gets jury verdict on charges

YATES COUNTY—A jury of 12 found Hammondsport resident (and formerly of Dundee) Robert Wood, 64, guilty of two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Monday, May 21, after facing charges of alleged sexual conduct with a minor.
The trial started last week, with deliberation beginning Thursday and ending Monday. Wood was found not guilty of:
    • Two counts of sexual conduct against a child in the second degree (between fall 2009 and August 2010, and between September 2010 and March 4).
    • Sexual abuse in the second degree.
Wood will return to the county court for sentencing, July 17, at 9:30 a.m.
At the time, the alleged victim was 11 years old, now 14.
On the second day of deliberation, the jurors had initially said they were “hung on all counts.” However, Judge Patrick Falvey said the jury had not deliberated long enough and told them to continue into the evening.
Schuyler County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Hayden said Wood also faces three charges in Schuyler County: one count of a criminal sexual act in the first degree (class B felony) and two counts of criminal sexual acts in the second degree (class D). Hayden said the court date was rescheduled and will likely be some time in August. He added the alleged victim is a girl, now 14 years old.
