Yates budget hearing this Thursday

YATES COUNTY--The Yates County legislature will hold a public hearing before the final 2018 county budget is approved. The budget meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 16, in the legislative chambers, 7 p.m.
The tax levy is going up 0.91 percent, and the tax rate is going down 1.07 percent. The levy moves to $16,191,848 from $16,045,571 last year. The tax rate goes from $6.5256 to $6.4556 with the proposed numbers. The budget is $342,839 under the New York state levy cap.
Late last month and early this month workshops were held where the initial budget levy was reduced nearly $200,000. At the workshops, in addition to adjustments to expenses and revenue, $50,000 was used from the unassigned fund balance and $50,000 in the road fund balance was also used.
