Yates County approves 2019 budget

PENN YAN--The county budget for 2019 has been approved.
Some of the key numbers for the budget include the following:
The combined budget of the three main funds (general, road and road machinery) results in a levy of $16.4 million. That is an increase of 1.51 percent over 2018. Total expenditures are $36,821,361. The tax levy for 2019 is $11,272,605.
Total revenues for the new year will be $24,816,056.
The budgeted tax rate of $6.24 per thousand of equalized assessed valuation is a reduction of $0.21 per thousand. Nonie Flynn, acting county administrator, treasurer and budget officer said this is the fourth consecutive year of reduced tax rates and the lowest since 2012. The tax levy increase is $88,628 or 0.79 percent.
Flynn adds, "For 2019 we have also created a central garage unit, raised the age of criminal responsibility to 18 years of age (by 2020) and included a budget line item of $46,184 to fund the county's Natural and Recreational Resources.
