Yates reappoints Hartman as superintendent

PENN YAN—Yates County Highway Superintendent David Hartman was unanimously reappointed during the year-end meeting of the Yates County Legislature Wednesday, Dec. 28. Hartman’s appointment is from Jan. 10 through Jan. 9, 2015. Legislature chairman Taylor Fitch said, “He is an outstanding leader in one of our departments.” 

In other business: Set a date for a public hearing on addition of viable agricultural lands to the Yates County Agricultural District. The public hearing will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan 10 in legislative chambers.

• Adopted 2011 employee benefits for nonunion personnel. 

•  Created a part-time clerk position for the Historian’s office. Prior to the decision the duties were performed by an independent contractor. There will be no increase in cost to the county.

• Yates County legislators remembered two former legislators prior to the beginning of their end of the year meeting  Wednesday, Dec. 29. Tom Studders was a member of the legislature in 1970 and 1971. Gordon Mehlenbacher served from 1972 through 1974.

• Fitch appointed June Pendleton to the Fish and Wildlife Management board for a term ending Dec. 21, 2012.

When he introduced his final resolution, Legislator Tim Dennis said the legislature had passed 500 resolutions during 2010. Eight additional resolutions were passed before the end of the meeting.

The next meeting of the Yates County legislature will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10 in legislative chambers at the Yates County office building on Liberty Street in Penn Yan.
