Yates, Schuyler beat tourism averages

FINGER LAKES--Tourism Economics, a Philadelphia-based research company, releases data on visitor spending each year for the Finger Lakes area and also state tourism overall.
The state's tourism economy expanded in 2017 with a 4.4 percent increase. The Finger Lakes region increased by 2.4 percent.
Other regions in the state that finished stronger for the year included: Catskills, 7.1 percent increase; central New York, 5.7 percent; Adirondacks and Greater Niagara, 5.5 percent.
The leading counties in the Finger Lakes region for year-over-year percentage gains included:
Seneca 11.6
Tompkins 9.3
Schuyler 6.2
Tioga 4.6
Yates 4.5
Ontario 3.0
Monroe 2.8
Livingston 2.6
The average overall growth percentage increase in the Finger Lakes area was 2.4 percent.
Yates County is the most dependent upon tourism with 11.6 percent of all labor income generated by visitors. Schuyler County relies on tourism for 14 percent of all employment sustained by visitors.
