‘Sound of Music’ set for this weekend

PENN YAN—The Penn Yan Academy Drama Club is presenting “The Sound of Music” this weekend, Friday March 7 through Sunday, March 9. Showtimes are March 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8 and 9 at 2 p.m.
Directed by Kelley Hamilton, the cast of 32 students will be accompanied by a full crew of students along with an orchestra, more than half of which is made up of students. “The Sound of Music” is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and based off of a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse in 1959. The story revolves around the von Trapp family singers and is set in Austria prior to the beginning of World War II.
The musical was adapted to film in 1965 starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer and won five academy awards.
Presale tickets are available at Long’s Cards and Books and Pinckney’s Hardware. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $1 more.
