Sports Recap: Week of 4/30/14

Dundee Scots baseball team falls to Lakers, 15-7
HAMMONDSPORT—The Dundee varsity baseball team lost to Hammondsport, 15-7, Saturday, April 26.
Dundee led until Hammondsport scored three runs in the fifth inning and another five runs in the sixth.  For Dundee, Bobby Strait scored three runs.  Nick Machuga had two hits and Paul Pollack had three hits.
Dundee topped Naples, 13-3, Wednesday, April 23.  Justin Neu and Austin Thompson each had a double.  David Ayers and Colin Prior both added singles.
Softball
The Lady Scots’ softball team topped Marcus Whitman, 9-6, Thursday, April 24.  Coach Courtney  Eddinger said Olivia Taylor pitched “a great game” with three strikeouts.  Tristine Dombroski was 4-for-4.  Kailee Morrison had a triple and three RBIs.  Cara Booth went 2-for-4
Track and field
The Scots’ varsity track teams competed in the Lyons Invitational, Friday, April 25.
For the boys, Chris Cramer was third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.31) and seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (17.91).  Cody Salvatore won fourth in the long jump and third in the triple jump.  Lance Irwin placed fourth in the shot put and fourth in the discus throw.
Jon Huber was third in the  200 meter dash (24.58) and eighth in the 100 meter dash (12.34).  Andrew Davis took fifth in the 1600 meter run (4:52.92)
For the girls, Nolleen Whetham won sixth in the 200 meter dash (29.26) and ninth in the 100 meter dash (14.17).  In the discus, Nicole Radcliff placed 10th, while Amber Sprague and Caitlin Schenck tied for 11th.

Hammondsport beats Scio in tournament
HAMMONDSPORT—The Hammondsport varsity softball team played in the Whitesville tournament, Saturday, April 26.
The Lakers beat Scio 32-3.  Emily Davis had the win from the mound with five strikeouts. Davis and Jillian Farmer both had four RBIs.  Alyson Binnert and Olivia Makarick added three each.  Sydney McGinn and Victoria Yahn had two each, while Korynne House and Shanea Campbell both had one RBI. Yahn had two doubles. Farmer and Davis added one double and two singles each, while Binnert had one double and one single.
The team lost to Whitesville, 5-7.  Despite 10 strikeouts from pitcher Yahn, Whitesville earned the lead with three runs in the sixth inning.  Farmer hit a two run homerun. Makarick had a double. Davis and House each had two singles.  Campbell and Farmer each had two RBIs, while  House had one RBI.
The Hammondsport softball team beat Prattsburgh, 4-1, Wednesday, April 23. Yahn struck out 10 players, had one hit, scored one run, and had one RBI. Farmer hit a double, scored one run and had one RBI.  House and  Campbell each had two hits, while Campbell scored one run.   McGinn added one RBI. Binnert scored one run.
Baseball
The Hammondsport varsity baseball team topped Dundee, 15-7, Saturday, April 26.  Dundee led until Hammondsport scored three runs in the fifth inning and another five runs in the sixth.  
The Hammondsport varsity baseball team beat Prattsburgh, Thursday, April 24.  The final score was 8-1.
Jordan Schuck had 15 strikeouts, five hits, and one unearned run.  Schuck, Chris Beers, Jake Peacock, and Cody Kolo each had a run, while Jeff Thompson had two.  Jake Peacock was 3-for-3.  Thompson went 2-for-3.
Golf
Hammondsport’s varsity golf team lost to Jasper-Troupsburg, Friday, April 25.  Jasper had the low score of 20-34.5.
Hammondsport’s Jared McAllister had the second lowest score of 52.  Aaron Lowin and Sydney Sprague shared third place with 54.  Ethan Bower golfed a 57 for fifth place.  Parker Watson was in sixth with 58.
Tennis
The Lakers’ varsity tennis team lost to Bath, Tuesday, April 22.  The final score was 4-1.
In singles, Dalton Ordway defeated Murray Wright, 7-6, 6-4.

Mustangs beat Geneva, 5-3; lacrosse wins three
PENN YAN—The Penn Yan varsity baseball team topped Geneva, 5-3, Thursday, April 24.
Coach Marty Olmstead said Jon McKay pitched the first four innings, followed by Kyle Gibson for two and Lukas Larham for one with the save. Rafael Colon had a two run double in the fifth inning to make the score 5-3. Derek Sisson had three hits, with one RBI.
Softball
The Mustangs varsity softball team lost to Geneva, 9-5, Thursday, April 24.
Becca Bailey had a triple and a double, while Ashley Walker added a double and one hit.
Boys lacrosse
The Mustangs’ boys varsity lacrosse team won against Clarence, Saturday, April 26.  The final score was 12-10.
Bradley Voigt had five goals and three assists.  Rion Davison added three goals and two assists.  Austin Fingar scored twice.
Sean Emerson had one goal and two assists, while Shane Bloom scored once.  Andrew Perl had one assist.  Goalie Brandon Maciejewski earned five saves.
Penn Yan topped Schroeder, 12-4, Thursday, April 24. Voigt had six goals and three assists.   Emerson added three goals and two assists.
The Mustangs blanked McQuaid, 15-0, Tuesday, April 22.   Voigt scored five times, while  Davison had three goals.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team topped Corning in a game, Saturday, April 26.  The final score was 9-8 in triple overtime.
Peyton Pallar led the Lady Mustangs with four goals, while Courtney Lafler had two.  Heather Conklin, Heather Lee, and Brianna Yonge all scored once.
Penn Yan lost to Waterloo, 10-2, Thursday, April 24.  The Lady Mustangs’ two goals came from  Pallar and Mia Covell.
Track and field
The Penn Yan varsity track teams competed in the Lyons Invitational, Friday, April 25.
Heather Andersen claimed first place in the 200 meter dash (26.22) and first in the 400 meter run (57.07).  Evelynn Pinneo took third in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:31.09) and ninth in the 3000 meter run (12:13.79).  Lydia Anderson was seventh in the long jump, while Sabrena Parsons was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (18.95) and Hannah Gaston placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:14.98).  Stephanie Owens was ninth in the 400 meter run (1:08.2).
For the boys, Peter Tomlinson won fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:17.27).  Gregory Neuberger was 10th in the 110 meter hurdles (18.69) and 11th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.15).  Nick Kinsey was 16th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.63).  Dylan Rumsey took 17th in the 3200 meter run (13:02.8), while John Drozda was 18th in the 400 meter run (58.47).

Watkins Glen baseball loses to Candor, beats Odessa
WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen varsity baseball team fell to Candor, 12-10, Saturday, April 26.
John Smith was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, five RBIs, and three runs scored.  Adam Tuttle 2-for-4 with a homerun and Brennon DeMeritt with one hit and two runs scored.
“We played hard today, we just couldn’t get that final out in the seventh inning,” said Coach Jerry Carocci.  “Brendan Hunter had another good outing.”
The Senecas fell to Newark Valley, 8-1, Friday, April 25.  James Updyke was 2-for-3, with one RBI.   DeMeritt, Sam Pulis, Dakota Lodge, and Brady Bond had one hit each. DeMeritt pitched for three and a half innings with no hits and four strikeouts.
Watkins’ baseball team lost to Lansing, 21-6, Thursday, April 24. Lodge went 2-for-4, with two RBIs and two runs scored.  Bond was 2-for-3, with one RBI.  Jared Carocci and Pulis added one hit each.
Watkins topped Odessa-Montour, 6-2, Wednesday, April 23.  For the Senecas, Josh Updyke was 1-for-3, with three RBI’s.  Smith went 1-for-3, with one RBI.  Pulis, Carocci, Hunter, and Bond each had one hit.
“It was a typical O-M/WG game; close,” said Carocci. “Both Brennon (DeMeritt) and Tanner (Dupuy) pitched well today. And Josh Updyke’s first hit of the season, a three run double in the bottom of the sixth, was big for us.”
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team lost to Candor, 14-8, Saturday, April 26.  Candor erased a 7-6 Watkins lead with eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Watkins Glen’s varsity softball beat Odessa-Montour, 15-0, Wednesday, April 23.  For the Senecas, Shannon Bailey was 2-for-3, with one RBI and two runs, while Alexis Naylor went 2-for-3, with a run. Nateah Cornish was 2-for-2, with three runs and one RBI. Katherine Meehan was 1-for-3, with one RBI and a run, and Jordan Doane was 1-for-3, with a double, two runs, and one RBI.
Alexis Gonzalez threw a no-hitter for Watkins.
Lacrosse
The Watkins varsity lacrosse team fell to Dryden, 19-2, Tuesday, April 22.
Ian Chedzoy and Justin Duane scored in the second quarter, both unassisted.  Bryce De La Osa Cruz had 10 saves and seven clears.
Girls golf
The Watkins Glen girls varsity golf team beat Odessa-Montour, Thursday, April 24.  The final score was 250-267.
Hanley Elliott led with a 50.  She lowered her previous best by four strokes.  Halle Phillips golfed a 57, while Cheyenne Stansfield had 66.  Gabi Decker golfed 77.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen boys varsity track team beat Elmira Notre Dame, 75-61, Tuesday, April 22.  The girls lost, 108.5-32.5.
For the boys, Matt Gill won first in the 1600 meter run (4:42.3), first in the 3200 meter run (10:15.3), and first in the high jump.  Kevin Kernan was first in the 110 meter hurdles (19.9, a personal record).  Matt Woodworth was first in the pole vault.  Ryan Pruitt claimed first in the long jump, while Thomas Schmitt won the shot put and the discus with personal records.  Pruitt was also first in the long jump.
For the girls, Lindsey Suddaby scored Watkins’ only first place finish, in the pole vault.  De’Naja Blanchard was also second in the 100 meter hurdles (18.6) and second in the long jump.
Isobel Scheffey won second in the 100 meter dash (13.8) and second in the 400 meters (1:13.3).  Maggie Bond placed second in the high jump, while Lucy Craig was second in the shot put.  Joelle Slater took second in the pole vault.

Odessa-Montour softball and baseball face Watkins
WATKINS GLEN—Watkins Glen’s varsity softball team blanked Schuyler County rival Odessa-Montour, 15-0, Wednesday, April 23.
Watkins kept Odessa from getting any hits during the game.
Baseball
Odessas’ varsity baseball team lost to Watkins Glen, 6-2, Wednesday, April 23.  Joel Kelly was 2-for-4 for Odessa. Chris Foote added a hit.
Golf
The Watkins Glen varsity golf team beat Odessa-Montour, Thursday, April 24.  The final score was 250-267.  Gillian Clark golfed a 52 for Odessa.  Catherine Rounds had 67, while Mikayla Curren added 71.  Gabby Fazzary had a 77.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team fell to Trumansburg, 5-2, Thursday, April 24.
In singles, Curtis Harris defeated Kelsey Kallstrom, 6-2, 7-5.  Frank Carson beat Cody Rose, 6-3, 6-3.
