Work will make Hammondsport gazebo level again

HAMMONDSPORT—For a building that is around 100 years old it is no surprise that the Hammondsport village gazebo would need some work done on it.
Nancy Clark, president of the beautification committee, said that the work on the leaning gazebo was started three weeks ago and is expected to be done by June 30.  She explained the project will cost around $62,000 and is something committee has been planning for several years now.  Funds for the project came from donations.
Workers had to dig down to the base of the gazebo to put in new footers.  Clark said they replaced a lot of posts holding the structure up.  Work is also being done to the roof and it is getting a new floor.  Clark said the final piece of refurbishment will be painting the gazebo, but keeping the same colors.  Chrisanntha Construction out of Gorham is doing the work.
“It should be set for a couple years,” she said.
Clark said the plan is to have the work done before any major summer events so the gazebo can be used.  That is why work started so early in the season.  The beautification committee hopes to do a ribbon cutting for the completed work, July 5
