Watkins Glen school gets $442K grant
The New York State Department of Education announced the Watkins Glen Central School District was awarded a Community Schools Grant totaling $442,100. According to Superintendent Tom Phillips, grant funds will be used to extend current afterschool programming, to support the district’s partnership with the YWCA to provide the Kids World Program, and to strengthen family supports for students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. In addition, the district will use funds to focus on health and wellness by collaborating with existing Schuyler County mental health services and continuing dental screenings. Potentially, the district could add primary care screenings for students in the early primary grades. The grant funds will be available to the district from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017.
