Yates receives $3.8M from state

TRI-COUNTY AREA--Eight Yates County projects were the recipients of some $3.81 million in state funding through Gov. Andrew Cuomo's New
York State Upstate Revitalization (URI) program. The funds also include those projects that were named the winners of the 2015 Regional Economic Development Council Awards.
The New York Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) is part of an overall program aimed at systematically revitalizing the economy of Upstate New York. Modeled after the Buffalo Billion Initiative, the URI is an opportunity for the communities of upstate New York to address the economic challenges of their regions and work together in bringing jobs back upstate. In January of this year Cuomo along with other community and business leaders announced the URI program and the partnership between the Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC).
Yates County currently has four URI projects in line for state funding. These projects include:
• The Finger Lakes Economic Development Center's purchase of a vacant warehouse in the Horizon Business Park for renovation of multi-tenant incubator facility for $150,0000.
• Greenidge Generation Holdings, LLC's renovation of an existing power plant in Dresden that will allow the plant to burn 100 percent natural gas for $2 million.
• Keuka College's Center For Business Analytics and Health Information that will optimize business creation, retention and expansion by providing analytic services to businesses in the start-up, expansion and growth phases for $125,000.
• The YMCA of Greater Rochester's expansion of the existing farmhouse at the 140 East Lake Road location for $200,000.
The county also had four projects receive funding through the 2015 Regional Economic Development Council Awards. These projects include:
• The town of Jerusalem's $50,000 to conduct a drinking water system improvements study.
• The town of Milo's $50,000 to conduct a water study to replace deteriorated water lines and to install an additional water main to eliminate a dead end line in the town's Water District No. 3.
• The town of Milo's $576,000 to replace deteriorated water lines and to install an additional water main to eliminate a dead end line in the town's Water District No. 3.
• The village of Penn Yan's $30,000 for the completion of an engineering report to evaluate the existing village sanitary sewer system focusing on the elimination of inflow and infiltration.
The town of Urbana in Steuben County also was awarded $350,000 for their waterfront revitalization project that will consist of construction of a new pier and parking area on the southern end of Keuka Lake. This project will enhance the economic vibrancy of the area and support tourism activity throughout the Southern Tier. The Finger Lakes Boating Museum was also awarded $50,000 to support structural improvements to the existing museum that will include electrical heating upgrades and a roof replacement as part of an effort to upgrade the region's waterfront infrastructure.
