New water district is almost ready

MILO—The Himrod water district and extension is close to delivering the first water to customers. The current project replaced a more ambitious one more than two years ago that would have provided water to a wider area of the town that was voted down by residents of the district. Levi Zemak, reporting for Larson Engineers, said the project is scheduled to be complete Sept. 30 and is on track. Contractors have started installing services to properties in the district and that work is about half compete. Water quality has been an issue in the hamlet for years and poor water test results two years ago triggered this $1,870,400 project.
In other business: The town council voted to extend the supervisor’s term of office to four years from the current two year term. The change is being proposed because two years is considered due to the difficulty of leaning all the details of the job in just two years. The town clerk’s position would be staggered with the supervisors if the change is approved by voters for continuity. The final decision will be up to town voters and will be on the ballot in November. If the change is approved the first four year term would be voted on in 2011 and the term would begin in January of 2012.
• Yates County planning board will be reviewing the town Comprehensive Plan. There will be a public hearing on the plan in September.
• Engineer for the town Wayne Ackart reported that on about the Fourth of July the East Lake Road water and sewer districts hit 100 million gallons. The districts have been in operation for several years.
• Voted to accept bids for a roof and furnace for the town highway barn at a total cost of $38,770.
• Approved continuation of the town insurance policy with Stork Insurance with some changes at a cost of approximately $19,000.
The next meeting of the Milo town board will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 in the town hall on Main Street in Penn Yan.
