How much rain have we had?
FINGER LAKES--If you think we've been getting a lot of rain, you are correct. The National Weather Service recently posted statewide averages for the 12 month period of June 2018 through May 2019. The results: it was the wettest on record (from 124 years of record-keeping) for Pennsylvania and the third wettest for New York state and for the country overall. Regionally for the period of January-June, 2019, Bryan Greenblatt, a forecaster for the National Weather Service in Binghamton, said so far this year is certainly above the area average--but it is not a record-setter. Greenblatt said, "With numbers from the Elmira station, we have received 14.61 inches of rain (ranked #20 in history)." The record is 21.14 inches from back in 1947.
