SPORTS RECAP: Week of 3-2-22

Dundee/Bradford
Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford BraveScots opened their sectional run with a win against Red Jacket, Saturday, Feb. 26. The final score was 62-16.
Kendall Parker and Hallie Knapp each scored 16 points in the game. Parker also added eight steals, while Knapp recorded nine rebounds and five steals. Kailey Yeoman contributed 10 points and five steals. Nikki Peterson grabbed seven rebounds and scored six points.
With the win, the girls move to 20-1, and face Keshequa at Canandaigua high school, Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m.

Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team plays in the sectional semi-final for Class C3, Monday, Feb. 28 at Newark. The boys advanced to that game by defeating Harley Allendale-Columbia, 59-54, Friday, Feb. 25. Ryan McTamney led the way with 24 points. Michael End had 12 points and Logan Salvatore scored nine.
The BraveScots face the number two seed, Caledonia-Mumford, to advance to the finals.

Penn Yan
Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team ended their season with a loss to Wellsville in the second round of sectionals, Saturday, Feb. 26. The final score was 65-53.
The boys opened sectionals with a win against Early College, 68-28, Wednesday, Feb. 23. Carter Earl and Griffin Emerson each had 17 points. Alex Foster, Oliver Connelly and Tanyon Dunning all scored six points.

Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team will play Midlakes in the second round of sectionals, Monday, Feb. 28.
The team made it to the semi-final game by beating Mynderse, Friday, Feb. 25. The final score was 42-37. Sierra Harrison scored 16 points. Jammie Decker had eight with 15 rebounds and two steals. Kaley Griffin added seven points and four rebounds.

Wrestling
Penn Yan's Mason Petersen competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet, Saturday, Feb. 26. Petersen competed at 285 pounds in division two, representing Section V. He finished fifth in the state defeating Logan Jamison from Marathon, Andrew Morris (Holland Patent), Christian Solano (Eagle Academy) and Charles Larose (Newfane).

Hammondsport
Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team fell in the sectional game to Andover/Whitesville, 57-47, Tuesday, Feb. 22. The Lakers were the 10th seed in Class D2.

Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls basketball team opened their sectional run with a loss to Elba, Saturday, Feb. 26. The final score was 61-49. Samantha Pratt scored 16 points, Hannah Hoerter had 14 and Rorie Whitcomb recorded 13 with eight rebounds.

Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
After getting a first-round bye, the Watkins Glen boys basketball team opened their sectional run with a win over Tioga, 68-41, Saturday, Feb. 26.
The number one seeded Senecas had scoring by Owen Scholtisek and Cameron Holland each with 14 points, while Mitchell Pike and Adam Pastore both notched 13.
Watkins now advances to the Class C semi-final against Newfield, Wednesday, March 2. The game is at SUNY Cortland with a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Odessa-Montour
Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Charlotte Valley in the opening game of sectionals, Wednesday, Feb. 23. The final score was 70-46. Daniel Lewis and Jon Gillis each scored 10 points.

Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls battled to win their second sectional game, Saturday, Feb. 26. They faced Schenevus and won 47-32, after being down early in the fourth quarter.
Hannah Nolan scored 14 points with 10 rebounds and seven steals. Mackenzie Cannon had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Keyonna Garrison added nine points and 12 rebounds.
This will mark the first sectional semifinal trip for the team since 2010 with a 12-9 season record. They will face Marathon, Tuesday, March 1.
The girls opened their sectional run with a victory over Edmeston, Tuesday, Feb. 22. The final score was 51-42. Nolan led with 15 points, 10 steals and eight rebounds. Garrison added 11 points with eight rebounds.

Wrestling
Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen wrestler Lucas Hoffman competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet, Saturday, Feb. 26. He represented Section IV in division two at 102 pounds.
Hoffman, an eighth-grader, opened with a match against Gabe English and lost by decision 7-0. He was then beaten by Brock Frederick, 7-5, in the consolation bracket..
