TRI-COUNTY AREA—The unemployment rate continues to rise in Yates, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties.According to the New York State Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for Yates County in December, 2009, is 7.5 percent. It rose from 6.3 in November. In comparison, Yates unemployment in December, 2008, was also 6.3 percent. December, 2009, is the most recent month the DOL has numbers for. The unemployment rate for Schuyler County in December, 2009, rose to 9.5 percent, from 8.1 percent in November. Steuben County’s unemployment rate is 10.2 percent, up from 9.4 percent in November. For both Schuyler and Steuben, December’s unemployment was the highest in the last 20 years. |
