Area ceremonies will honor veterans

TRI-COUNTY AREA--Several community ceremonies are being planned for this coming Veterans Day Tuesday, Nov. 11.

In Yates County, a ceremony will be held at the Penn Yan Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post located at 200 Elm St. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and will have a lunch to follow.
Keuka College will also hold their annual ceremony Nov. 11 at 4:15 p.m. in the Norton Chapel. The day after Veterans Day, the students and staff of St. Michael School will hold a 9 a.m. ceremony at the flagpole on the school lawn Wednesday, Nov. 12.
There will also be the fifth annual Veterans Day ceremony at Penn Yan Academy Thursday, Nov. 6. The ceremony is put on by the college government class and will start at 9 a.m. following refreshments at 7:45 a.m. The ceremony will go no later than 10:30 a.m.
All veterans are welcome to attend. The keynote speaker will be Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy.
Dundee Central School will also host Veterans Day programs to honor service members with two concerts. The concerts will include patriotic and American folk music, marches and songs representing the armed forces. The public is invited to attend the free performances held in the auditorium.
The junior high band and chorus, senior high band and chorus, and a cappella chorus is performing Thursday, Nov. 7, at 8:45 a.m. and at 6:30 p.m. The fourth, fifth and sixth grade band and chorus, along with the third and fourth grade chorus will be performing Friday, Nov. 8 at 1:15 p.m.
In Schuyler County, the annual ceremony on the courthouse lawn will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will feature a keynote speech by Vietnam War veteran Michael Coolican.
