Watkins loses to Waverly, 35-6

WATKINS GLEN—Waverly earned an early lead to beat the Watkins Glen varsity football team, 35-6, Friday, Oct. 5.

Waverly scored within the first few minutes and took the first quarter, 14-0. The halftime score was 29-0. Watkins had one touchdown and managed to hold off Waverly's offense in the fourth quarter.
The Senecas had 140 yards rushing over 37 carries. Watkins was also three for 10 passing with 19 yards. Brady Myers led with 14 carries for 57 yards. Billy Brennan had five carries for 23 yards. John Smith had four carries for 16 yards, while Jordan Rappleye also had four carries for 12 yards. Brady Bond contributed two carries for 27 yards and Watkins' one touchdown off of a 16 yard run. Tony Simiele added seven attempts for 10 yards.
"Waverly is a great football team," said Coach Lou Condon Jr. "They are the true definition of what a state championship contender should be."
Condon added that he hopes the Watkins team will bounce back for the next challenge: the annual Bucket Game between Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour. The Friday, Oct. 12, event is also the Senecas' homecoming night and senior recognition.
