MONTOUR FALLS-- The construction work for the hospital's $10.3 million state grant will begin in late January.
Matthew Rouff, executive director for outpatient and support services at the hospital said, "We call this the transformation project. The grant is from the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program (SHCFTP) and it will allow the hospital to update our construction from the hospital's dated 1972 building."
Rouff said this is really a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the hospital and the project will help to create a financially stable, sustainable care system as well as replacing some inefficient and outdated facilities.
The project has two different phases. The first part of the construction will be to build a new inpatient medical surgical unit with a total of 16 beds. Twelve single rooms and two double rooms will be included. Rouff said the new rooms will integrate technology with larger sized rooms and offer more patient privacy along with providing more space for families. The first phase of the project will be built on the north end of the current facility and includes 15,000 square feet of space. The beginning phase is scheduled to be complete by December, 2019.
The second phase of the project will start at the end of 2019 and finish by June, 2020. The second part includes re-modeling the existing primary care center (where doctors currently see outpatients) and converting that area into a new primary care center. With this re-modeling phase the hospital primary care space will increase the available space by 60 percent and increase from 13 exam rooms to 18.
Rouff said, "We will be able to offer a much better patient experience and more convenient health care. We are all looking forward to seeing the results of this project at the hospital."
