SPORTS RECAP: Week of 9-14-22

Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The Penn Yan-Dundee football team opened the season on the road with a win over Lyons-Sodus, 31-24, Friday, Sept. 9.
Quarterback Carter Earl was 6-for-10 with 42 yards. He also ran the ball 13 times for 25 yards and two touchdowns.
On the ground, Nick Slavick had 12 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown. Bryant Van Housen also had 12 carries but for 73 yards. Hunter Sheehan added 10 carries for 60 yards.
Reed Bouchard, Anthony Sciallo and Van Housen each had quarterback sacks on defense and Jon Bell led the team with five tackles. Sciallo also had a fumble recovery and Van Housen added a fumble recovery that was returned for a touchdown.

Penn Yan
Boys Soccer
The Penn Yan boys soccer team lost in overtime to Newark, Thursday, Sept. 8. The final score was 4-3. David Reid had two goals and Jesse Young had one. Landon Berry recorded three assists.
The Mustangs also fell to Wayne, 2-1, Tuesday, Sept. 6. Jayden Reid was assisted by David Reid.

Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls soccer team won against South Seneca, 3-1, Saturday, Sept. 10. Hailey Hassos had two goals and Kaylyn Lewis had one. Lewis also assisted as did Morgan Andersen and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger. Sienna Pettersen recorded one save in goal.
The Mustangs fell to Mynderse, Wednesday, Sept. 7. The final score was 3-2. Leah Prather and Kiera Castner both scored. Andersen assisted. Pettersen made five saves in goal.
The team also tied East Rochester, 1-1, Tuesday, Sept. 6. Miranda-Wiltberger scored with an assist from Andersen. Pettersen had one save.

Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at Red Jacket Saturday, Sept. 10.
James Tette was fifth in 16:55. Anthony Wheeler was 32nd with an 18:41 and Kyle Wheeler was 36th in 18:44.

The Penn Yan golf team fell to Mynderse 249-305, Tuesday, Sept. 6. The low score for Penn Yan was Colin Johnson with a 57.

Girls Tennis
The Penn Yan tennis team defeated Palmyra-Macedon, 3-2, Thursday, Sept. 8. Rachael Garvey and Adelyn Emerson won their singles matches, while Rayna Rios and Natalie Koen won in doubles.
The tennis team also shutout Waterloo 5-0, Tuesday, Sept. 6. In singles, Garvey, Emerson and Tillman won. In doubles, Amanda Smith and Koen won as did Aubrey Flores and Erin Clancy.

The Penn Yan volleyball team fell to Midlakes in four games, Saturday, Sept. 10.
The team defeated Palmyra-Macedon, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-14, Thursday, Sept. 8.
The Mustangs also beat Honeoye, Tuesday, Sept. 6. The game scores were 25-3, 25-16 and 25-3.

Girls Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford soccer team fell to Marcus Whitman, 2-1, Saturday, Sept. 10. Kendall Parker scored with an assist by Korrin Yeoman. Ellie Fleet had 12 saves in goal.
The soccer team defeated South Seneca, Friday, Sept. 9. The final score was 2-1. Madison Hughes and Parker scored for the BraveScots. Madison Hughes and Trisha Edmister assisted. Fleet recorded eight saves.
The team won big over Romulus, 7-0, Wednesday, Sept. 7. Hughes led the team with three goals. Parker had two as did Adalyn Tham. Fleet made two saves in the goal.

Boys Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team lost to Keshequa, 5-1, Saturday, Sept. 10. Ian Pavlina scored with an assist by Nathan Kiskaden.
The BraveScots fell to Bishop Kearney/Chesterton, Thursday, Sept. 8. The final score was 8-0.
The boys won over HAC in double overtime, 3-2, Tuesday, Sept. 6. Scoring for Dundee-Bradford were Miguel Candela with two goals including the game-winner, and Aiden Monell.

Cross Country
The Dundee-Bradford cross country team competed at Red Jacket, Saturday, Sept. 10. For the boys, Devon Grandall was 129th in 23:23. Bryten Dunham was 139th with a 25:11, and Braedyn Fisher was 148th in 29:18.
For the girls competition, Cheyanne Grandall was 68th in 28:28.

The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team fell to Harley-Allendale Columbia, Thursday, Sept. 8. The game scores were 15-25, 9-25 and 13-25.
The team defeated South Seneca in four games, Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Lily Hall had seven kills and 15 assists. Mikayla Schoffner recorded 13 kills and nine aces, Addie Kendall contributed six kills and seven assists and Chelsey Williams had five aces.

Boys Soccer
The Hammondsport boys soccer team lost to Addison, 5-1, Wednesday, Sept. 7. Scoring for the Lakers was Luke Szathmary with an assist by TyChristopher Ritter.

Girls Soccer
The Hammondsport girls soccer team fell to Avoca/Prattsburgh, 3-2, Thursday, Sept. 8. Zayda Braun and Sam Pratt scored for the Lakers with assists by Danica Dresser and Gabrielle Doyle. LaZell Locey made 12 saves in goal.
The girls also fell to Alfred-Almond, Tuesday, Sept. 6. The final score was 3-2. Scoring for Hammondsport was Doyle and Dresser. Locey also had 12 saves.

The Hammondsport volleyball team lost to Arkport-Canaseraga in three games, Thursday, Sept. 8. The team also fell to Fillmore, Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Schuyler Storm
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour combined football team defeated Harpursville 40-6, Saturday, Sept. 10.
Quarterback Daniel Lewis was 5-for-10 with 96 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Ryan Willett had 12 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Bradley Gillis ran nine times to pick up 90 yards.
In the air, Willett made two catches for 32 yards. Alex Holmes, Gillis and Thomas Snow each had one completion with a touchdown.
Snow and Willett also led the team with five tackles each on defense.

Watkins Glen
Cross Country
The Watkins Glen cross country team hosted a home meet at the state park, Tuesday, Sept. 6. In the boys race, Aidan Maphis was first in 20:53.67. John VanScoyk was third in 21:45.16 and Nick Bonsignore was eighth in 25:00.31.
For the girls, Wendy Coleman was ninth in 30:13.15.

Boys Soccer
The Watkins Glen boys soccer team tied with Odessa-Montour, Saturday, Sept. 10. The final score was 2-2. Jacob Yontz was first to score for the Senecas and earned the second goal off of a corner kick by Adriano Ripol.
After two overtime periods, the game was a tie at 2-2. Jacob Vandereems had 16 saves in goal.
The boys soccer team lost to Tioga, 2-1, Thursday, Sept. 8. Yontz scored the lone goal and Caleb Bresett had six saves in goal.

Girls Soccer
The Watkins Glen girls soccer team defeated Southern Cayuga, Saturday, Sept. 10. The final score was 6-0. Ava Kelly recorded four goals in the game. Sky Honrath and Briana Hatch each had one. Honrath also added three assists, while Carly Arnold had two and Honrath one. Goalie Lilly Ameigh made five saves in the game.
The girls fell to Newark Valley, 6-0, Wednesday, Sept. 7. Ameigh had eight saves in goal.

The Watkins Glen volleyball team competed at the Campbell-Savona tournament, Saturday, Sept. 10.
Watkins Glen's Ava Barber was named to the all-tournament team. Arkport-Canaseraga won the event.

Boys Soccer
The Odessa-Montour soccer team tied Watkins Glen, Saturday, Sept. 10. The final score after two overtimes was 2-2. Scoring were Jacob Shaul and Max Seles.
The boys lost to Trumansburg, 5-1, Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Girls Soccer
The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team fell to Elmira Notre Dame, Wednesday, Sept. 7. The final score was 2-1. Tori Brewster had the team's one goal.

The Odessa-Montour volleyball team lost two games last week. They fell to Newfield, 0-3, Thursday, Sept. 8 and Waverly 0-3, Wednesday, Sept. 7..
