The Montour Falls Fire Department Festival and Parade is back, offering a weekend packed with activities for the entire family. The festival opens on Thursday, June 6, and runs through Saturday, June 8.
As always, the highlight of the event is the parade that begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The theme this year is Spirit of America. On the list of bands set to appear are: Montour Falls Fire Department, Caledonian Highlanders, Odessa-Montour, Horseheads, Addison, Prattsburgh, Corning-Painted Post, Campbell-Savona, Canaseraga, Jasper-Troupsburg, and many area fire departments, floats, and vehicles. Prizes will be awarded for first through third places. The route runs from Main Street to the fairgrounds.
The grounds open at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and noon on Saturday. There will be a chicken barbecue on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m., as well as a cornhole tournament beginning at 10 a.m.
Entertainment begins Thursday with Going South Entertainment performing from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday will feature Clark Jackson from 7 to 11 p.m. and Saturday will include The Dean Goble Band from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Random Tangent from 8 to 11 p.m.
Throughout the festival, there will be games of chance, a raffle, bingo, food, and rides. The event raises funds for the fire department’s equipment fund, including purchasing equipment for a new fire truck arriving in August.
“This is our only fundraising event for the year and the only time we ask the public for funds,” said Keith Pierce, carnival chairman and department lieutenant. “Join the community in supporting the Montour Falls Fire Department while enjoying a fun-filled weekend.”
