Board names Watkins clerk

WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen board of trustees has hired Fred Warrick of Beaver Dams to be the new village clerk in a unanimous vote during the Monday, June 7 meeting. Warrick, who had been serving as interim clerk, will now finish out the appointed term which is set to expire next year.
"We interviewed a few people for the position and Fred had a very impressive resume," said Mayor Luke Leszyk. "He ran HR for a large TV station in California and for a large physical therapy office so he already had the knowledge of the Human Resources which is a big part of what the clerk does. We were very lucky to find someone with his skill level so quickly to fill the position and he is catching right on with what is going on and he is a welcome addition to the office."
Despite being his first position working for a municipality, Warrick said his extensive history in HR work has already served him well.
"I have had an HR background for years...the learning curve is that I have no municipal experience, but HR has always been my thing and I enjoy doing it," said Warrick after the meeting. "This is going to be an exciting challenge."
The clerk position is often the go-to for not only local officials but also residents whenever a village-related question comes up.
Along with learning on the job, Warrick said he is looking forward to bringing his own unique perspective to the position.
Ann Barford, President of the Seneca Lake Scenic Byway, was in attendance to discuss moving and adding the start of the Seneca Lake Scenic Byway to Watkins Glen State Park. The byway, which is already a 19-mile corridor along the southeast of Seneca Lake currently follows New York State Route 414 from Clute Park in Watkins Glen to Lodi Point State Marine Park.
Eventually, Barford said, the goal is for the byway to encircle the entirety of the Seneca Lake.
