HAMMONDSPORT--Christmas in the Park is set for Saturday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Hammondsport. Celebrating its 46th year, the event is sponsored by area businesses and presented by the Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce.
Christine Haar, office manager at the chamber and event organizer, expects that the reindeer will be one of the highlights of this year's event along with Santa Claus. Both will be available from 6 to 8 p.m., interacting with eventgoers. During that same two-hour block, horse-drawn wagon rides will run from the village square.
"The horses pulling the wagon are beautiful and quite majestic," said Haar. "In addition, Santa is always wonderful at this event. He takes his time with all of the children, listening to their wish lists."
The sounds of the season will also echo through the park, with bandstand performances by bell ringers, a jazz band, the Penn Yan Community Choir, various churches, and a group from Hornell. Organizers also hope that attendees will do a bit of holiday shopping at the event. Sixteen vendors will be set up, selling gifts and food.
"This is a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit," said Haar. "It's also a marvelous chance to support local business owners and area vendors."
Christmas in the Park follows a day full of activities, beginning with breakfast with Santa, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Hammondsport Fire Hall, and a production by Keuka Lake Players at the First Presbyterian Church at 3:30 p.m.
