HAMMONDSPORT--The 36th annual Wine Country Classic Boats Show will be held this weekend in Hammondsport. Boats and related nautical items will be on display at Depot Park's waterfront throughout the event. The show begins at 9 a.m. both days and runs until 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m., Sunday. Early visitors on Friday may catch some of the boats launching, or see the informal cruise around the lake.
This year's show will feature lapstrake boats which are constructed with wood and have planks on the exterior that overlap to form the boat's hull. As always, there will be a number of wood boats displayed from all vintages ranging from antique to performance oriented.
The highlight on Saturday will include the annual boat parade at 3 p.m. Many of the entries in the show do "fly-bys" of the lakefront to showcase their boat in action. The year, make and owners of the boats are announced for spectators. Judging of the boats will occur throughout the morning, and vendors will be set up at the park with food offerings as well as apparel.
Sunday will include a poker run beginning at 10:15 a.m. with a chicken barbecue to follow. Some of the boats will remain on display at the park.
In addition to the boats, classic cars and light trucks will be included in the show, Saturday. Admission is free throughout the weekend and the show is handicapped accessible.
