DUNDEE--Michelle Conner has earned the 2018-19 title of Lady Scot for the Dundee Scottish Festival and "Our Town Rocks."
Conner was one of three Dundee students vying for the position.
Conner said, "I would like to be this years Lady Scot because I value our community as a whole. I cherish the well-being of our community and those in it. The character and values I possess would allow me to assist those around me to build a healthier community."
Kristen VanValkenburg, a coordinator for the Lady Scot committee and the youth component of the Scottish Festival said, "We look for students that will be positive role models and advocates for services and organizations in our community. We focus on scholarship, leadership, character and service."
With that criteria, last Wednesday three Dundee students, Conner, Isabella Levanduski and Haille Empson, answered questions from a panel of local community leaders during the personal interview stage of the competition. Then, at noon Wednesday the three were guests of Dundee Rotary and they presented their prepared speeches to club members.
After the speeches the winner was named.
Conner enjoys marching band, varsity soccer, varsity track and field, Scotsmen Singers, musical theatre and natural helpers at school. Her educational plans after high school include achieving a four-year bachelor of science nursing degree and becoming a pediatric nurse.
Levanduski and Empson finished strong in the competition and both have been invited to serve on the Lady Scot court with Conner.
The Scottish Festival and Our Town Rocks will coronate Conner as the official Lady Scot Saturday, July 14 at the Dundee VFW, Seneca Street Extension. VanValkenburg said their committee may announce a male Highlander representative at a later date.
