STEUBEN COUNTY--In what should be a busy next couple of years for Bath, town officials are eagerly awaiting construction on an LP SmartSide ExpertFinish prefinishing facility on 75 acres of land. Along with the expected opening of a new Amazon facility, Town Supervisor Ron Smith said he is hopeful that Bath is currently undergoing a transformational moment that could lead it into the future.
"Things are looking up for Bath," said Smith. "And the key is teamwork, our legislators working with utilities and taking advantage of the resources that we have."
Facility owner, LP Building Solutions, are targeting an opening date of the third quarter in 2023.
"To support strong customer demand, LP is aggressively pursuing prefinishing capacity expansion plans both within our existing facilities as well through this greenfield facility in Steuben County, New York," said LP Executive Vice President, Siding - Neil Sherman, in a prepared statement.
The company notes the Southern Tier is ideally suited for LP Building Solutions not only due to the presence of available land but also its proximity to new construction, remodeling and repair work being done in the housing market across the Northeastern United States.
"A key element of our SmartSide siding growth strategy is to expand our prefinished strand-based solutions, particularly in the Northeast," said Sherman. "With LP's prefinishing expertise and capabilities as well as the increased capacity the Bath facility offers, we are well-positioned to grow in this market."
For his part, Smith said he is excited for the incoming jobs, which he said will include benefits, created as a result of the new facility.
"We're all trying to make a difference in Bath and this isn't just job creation, it's everything that goes with it," Smith mentioned.
LP has announced that up to 60 jobs are expected to be created.
"This investment and the jobs associated with it will be transformational for the Bath community, and we look forward to supporting the company's future growth," said Steuben County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director James C. Johnson.
Once up and running, the new facility will join LP Roaring River, LP Green Bay, and LP St. Louis as the fourth facility in operation in the United States. A key aspect of the facility is that it will be constructed with the future in mind. According to LP, the facility will be designed so that future expansions can be easily added as needed.
"We are all trying to lead Bath into the future working as a team," added Smith. It has been a lot of hard work."
