Downtown projects now go to the state

PENN YAN--The meetings are done. The consultants have completed their work. Penn Yan's list of Downtown Revitalization Initiatives (DRI) will now be forwarded to Albany.
The final DRI public open house was held Monday, March 18 and the final local committee meeting was held Wednesday, March 13.
The final slate includes 15 projects with 70 new downtown residences and 100 projected new jobs.
However, Ed Flynn, Penn Yan's project coordinator for the downtown work and executive with the Rochester-based LaBella architectural firm reminds people the state will now narrow the list of projects to be completed down to $9.7 million.
Flynn said Penn Yan should typically hear the state decisions by mid-July. Local Planning Committee member Stan Olevnik said, "Penn Yan should look at this process as Penn Yan is the winner with the projects that get selected-not that somebody is a loser because a project doesn't get chosen. Penn Yan is the winner of nearly $10 million."
