Dresden village board 5/9/12

Meeting:  The Dresden village board met Wednesday, May 9, for one hour and 10 minutes.
Attendance:  All board members were present.  There were 10 members of the public in the audience.
Action:  The board approved to allow a tree on village property to be removed by an outside agency. The Veterans Memorial Committee wanted to remove a potentially dangerous tree at the new veterans’ memorial at no cost to Dresden.  However, there is an ordinance about who can take down such trees, which the board overrode.
Discussion without action:  Town and village Assessor Mary Lilyea said the assessments will now be completed every three years as opposed to annually.  The next assessment will be in 2014 or 2015 after a final decision is made. The village uses the prior year’s tax roll when doing village tax billings.
    • Trustee Dan Egburtson offered his services to help with the summer mowing if the department of public works needs help.
    • Resident Pege Brow asked that the area around the new veterans memorial be designated a no parking area, not just for Memorial Day events.  She explained people drive over the sidewalk.  Mayor Joe Gibson said that the area is used for church parking and that there is a parking concern around the village.
    • Clerk Terry Dilts gave a report on the playground, saying a meeting has not been set up yet and she will contact the president of the Women’s Auxiliary again.  Dilts said that she put together some information for review.  Brow had a concern about the playground changes as there is a tennis court, baseball field, basketball court, and swim area that does not get used.  She asked if a survey was done to see how many children use the available facilities.  Hatter Reynolds has also collected $120 in funds for the village playground.
    • A year end meeting will be held Wednesday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m.  The board discussed moving the meeting usually held in June to May as was done the previous year.
    • Brow suggested creating a community service day because the Boy Scouts need to do community service and they could help people.   The board discussed that there are already similar programs in place.
    • Brow asked the fire department if all members have had physicals as required.  The physicals were done and the results are on file in a locked cabinet at the firehouse.  All firefighters are in compliance.
Upcoming meetings:  The next village board meeting is Wednesday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m.
