Dundee bands take class championship

GORHAM—The Dundee junior and senior high bands competed at the Gorham Pageant of Bands, June 4 and 5, and brought home the Class C Championship.
Dundee’s Ane Shoemaker was also awarded Best High School Drum Major, over all other schools in the pageant regardless of class. The Scots also placed in most of the categories. Dundee had first in Indoor Drumline and Senior High Concert Band.
The Scots took second in the Floor Guard, Senior High Jazz Band, Junior High Jazz Band and Marching Band. Third places for Twirling and Junior High Concert Band rounded out the wins for Dundee.
This was the pageant’s 48th year. A total of 18 school districts competed, including East Irondequoit, Gananda, Naples, Livonia and Batavia.
“All of the bands we were against were extremely competitive, which really pushes the kids to do their best,” said music teacher Patrick Dunham. “I’m especially happy with the High School Concert Band, and excited to have made a little history this year, winning class champions both at Seneca Falls and Gorham, plus the Grand Champion trophy at Seneca Falls. To my knowledge, Dundee has never done all of this.”
