Dundee moves football, soccer practice fields

DUNDEE—Dundee Central School District Athletic Charles Mochamer presented a number of changes for practice fields on campus to the board of education during their Aug. 12 meeting. The practice fields for football and soccer have moved. Mochamer said at the end of fall last year there were discussions about moving the varsity football field to the back part of the campus, revamping the old soccer field for football. He said, “It’s a good idea to move all football practice to the back and establish a football field there for next year.” Football games will be on the main field this year.
The fields are used extensively both for school activities and community youth sports programs. Youth soccer and football use the fields with up to 150 to 200 kids using the facilities on practice nights.
Mochamer outlined the variety of changes that would be needed. A limited amount of fill will be needed to improve the back field. He also spoke about concern about the heavy traffic on the main driveway. He feels it is a good idea to move all football practice to the back of the campus. There have been problems with youngsters who participate in youth programs who are dropped off unsupervised. Soccer will be in front this year.
The current football field and track will be renovated as part of Phase 2 of the capital project now going on and will be unavailable for use during the work. Mochamer said when the football field is reconstructed the Little League football would have the back field to themselves.
Mochamer said the new practice fields were laid out Aug. 16.
Superintendent of Schools Kathy Ring said, “The goal is to accommodate everyone who wants to use it.”
