Dundee names new school administrators

DUNDEE—Dundee Central School District board of education appointed Kathy Ring Assistant Superintendent of Schools, effective Sept. 11. Ring will become Interim Superintendent of Schools following current superintendent Nancy Zimar’s retirement. The resolution was passed unanimously by the board of education at their September 10 meeting. Ring will work closely with Zimar in transitioning to her future role at Interim Superintendent of Schools from Zimar’s retirement through June 30. Beyond July 1, 2010 it is expected that Ring will continue as Superintendent of Schools pending performance review and approval of her appointment by the board of education.
Audience member Bob Ford said he felt all of Dundee should have been notified about the change and be able to vote on it, also complaining about the possible extra cost. Zimar told Ford the district was actually going from five to four administrators with the change. District families were notified through the Connect Ed system about the issue before the board meeting.
During the board of education meeting board of education president Joseph Capurso said, “She [Ring] understands out unique educational culture and can contribute positively and immediately. She will suit Dundee very well.” He said, “It has been a very interesting day and very successful. I am extremely happy we will have Kathy at the helm. This is balanced with a tinge of sadness. Nancy has given us many years of service. I can’t say enough about her contributions.”
Audience member Donna Ameigh said, “I worked with Kathy Ring for 20 years. I think she is well qualified for the job. She will suit the district very well.” Ameigh said she thought more people would be at the meeting.
Ring has served as DCS elementary principal since 1998. She has worked for the school district since 1975 in a number of capacities including reading teacher, reading coordinator, teacher on special assignment and administrative assistant-congruence coordinator. She has 17 years of experience providing strategic, fiscal and operational leadership in education. Ring was also employed as a reading instructor for Keuka College and was chosen to serve as a member of a State Education department School Review Team in 2002. Her expertise encompasses curriculum and instruction, human resource management, staff development, team building and performance improvement, grant writing, finance and budget management and parent relations. Ring earned her School District Administration certification in 1988 from the State University of New York at Brockport. She has a master’s degree in reading and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and math from the State University of New York at Potsdam.
Several other changes were made at the meeting including the shift of current Junior High principal Laurie Hopkins-Halbert to interim elementary principal. Senior high school principal Chris Arnold will become principal of the junior and senior high school.
